Position Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides overall management of the day to day operations of our Association in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization and the annual operational plan. Key accountabilities for this position include:
Operational Planning and Operations
Develops, oversees and implements an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization;
Determines direction by making sound financial business needs decisions based on situational assessments, identifies urgency and risks, makes calculated decisions which are timely and in the best interest of the organization;
Ensures that the development, implementation and management of day to day operations of all programs within the organization are being carried out effectively and efficiently;
Gathers, interprets and communicates information about sport community trends, and resources as they relate to enhancing the Board's capacity for effective communication, decision- making and long-term planning.
Financial Management
Develops and administers a comprehensive annual budget, providing appropriate updates to the Board;
Ensures that the Association complies with all required reporting obligations;
Submits applications and proposals to external funding agencies such as Sport Canada, and all corporate and private sponsors;
Researches and pursues funding and sponsorship opportunities.
Communication and Public Relations
Manages all communications effectively and in a timely fashion;
Ensures that the operation of the organization meets or exceeds the expectations of its clients, Board and Funding Partners (within the organizational parameters). Focuses on client’s needs; anticipates, comprehends, and responds immediately to the needs of internal and external clients;
Establishes good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with sporting communities, funding partners, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organizations;
Develops in cooperation with the board a comprehensive communication plan that includes crisis management, internal and external communication.
Human Resource Functions
Oversees the implementation of the Human Resources policies, procedures and practices for all paid or volunteer staff;
Determines staffing strategies for efficient organizational management and program delivery;
Recruits and selects staff, ensuring appropriate training and development and engaging in performance management where necessary.

Desired Education and Qualifications
Completion of a Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline
Five or more years’ experience of management experience with not-for-profit organizations including experience working directly with a Board of Directors
Full understanding of issues of governance involving not-for-profit organizations
Previous experience developing and implementing an organizational strategic plan
Highly developed communication skills including the ability to communicate a strategic plan and obtain commitment from all levels of the organization as well as community members
Understanding of sport community trends, regulatory, and financial environment
Ability to develop and maintain key relationships with sporting communities, funding partners, politicians, and other external organizations
Previous success with active fundraising and developing proposals to external funding agencies, corporate and private sponsors
Previous experience identifying organizational risk issues and developing appropriate mitigation strategies including crisis management communication plans
Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting
Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
Previous experience developing, implementing, and managing staffing strategies for paid and volunteer positions
Ability to train, develop, and performance manage staff and leaders as appropriate
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Excellent time-management skills, able to multi-task and prioritize own work
Superior attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
