Francois Coulombe-Fortier captured Canada’s final medal in Taekwondo on Day 4 of competition at the 2011 Pan Am Games. Coulombe-Fortier, whose coach is Master Alain Bernier defeated Kenneth Edwards of Jamaica 15-3 in his first fight and went on to meet Robelis Despaigne of Cuba but fell short by a score of 5-3 to capture the bronze in men’s +80kg.
This is Canada’s third medal in Taekwondo at the Championships which are taking place in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Also competing on the final day of taekwondo competition was Jasmine Vokey in women’s +67kg. Vokey faced Sandra Julieth Vanegas of Columbia and was defeated 5-2.
Canada previously captured two gold medals at the Games won by Ivett Gonda and Melissa Pagnotta. Coulombe-Fortier’s bronze is the 28th medal for Canada who currently sits in fourth place in the medal standings.
