Kyorugi – Training camps

Level A – Introduction to sparring

  • Coaches and athletes will learn basic drills and techniques which apply to all levels of sparring
  • Coaches and athletes will learn expectations for sparring from colour belt to black belt
  • Focus is fun, learning the game and improving techniques

Level B – going to nationals

  • Medium to high level drills
  • Focus is on understanding basic ring strategy and the elements of training

Level C – High performance

  • Geared toward athletes already competing at the National level, who are attending or looking to attend International events
  • Focus is on specific ring strategies, how to read opponents, annual training plans and understanding the commitments to compete at this level

Poomsae Introduction

Recognized Poomsae

Freestyle Poomsae

Level A

one day, red belt and higher, age 12 and up, basic techniques and forms Il Jang through Pal Jang

one day, red belt and higher, age 10 and up

one day, all belts, age 8 and higher, individual elements of Freestyle

Level B

two days, black belts, age 12 and up, Koryo to Sipjin

two days, black belts, age 10 and up, Koryo to Pyongwon

two days, blue belts, age 10 and higher (can start at this level)

  • Day 1 - individual elements
  • Day 2 - Construct a Freestyle Poomsae routine

Level C

two days, black belts, age 16 and up, Sipjin to Ilyeo

two days, black belts, age 16 and up, Sipjin to Hansu

two days, black belts, age 12 and higher

  • Work with a national team coach to perfect their Freestyle Poomsae routine
