Regular applications are considered to be applications for 1st Dan and higher that do not require any change in personal information. They may not be submitted before the promotion eligibility date and must be submitted online; paper applications will be returned. Recommenders and clubs complete applications, upload documents, and provide payment online; they will receive automated email receipts of their purchased Kukkiwon applications.

Note: Only regular Kukkiwon applications may be uploaded using the online system. Applications with changes, corrections, conversions, replacements and Skip Dans are Kukkiwon Special Requests and must be forwarded to kukkiwon@taekwondo-canada.com under cover of the Kukkiwon Special Request form

Applications with Changes, Correction, Conversion, Replacement, and Skip Dan

Fee: $30 USD (processing fees) plus shipping fees.

Shipping fees will be in CAD and are determined when the certificates are received and ready to ship to clubs.

The Kukkiwon Special Request processing fee is waived if a club is able to provide evidence that correct information was uploaded to Taekwondo Canada for 1st Poom/Dan certificates. The fee waiver is valid only for the six (6) month period following the date of issue of the 1st Poom/Dan certificate.

If a promotion application is submitted concurrently with an information change request, the promotion fee covers the KKW Special Request processing fee.

For 2nd Poom/Dan or higher applications, if a club uploads an application online with an existing error in certificate personal information, Taekwondo Canada will not accept responsibility for the existing errors and the processing fee applies.

Supporting Documentation: In all cases, you will need to send:

  • Kukkiwon Special Request form;
  • Current Kukkiwon certificate (not ID card);
  • Canadian passport, birth certificate or citizenship certificate;
  • If not Canadian, you must include the athlete’s passport or birth certificate along with a copy of his/her Permanent Resident’s card.

Kukkiwon Certificate Corrections: Submit the Kukkiwon Special Request form and indicate in the notes the correction that you are making. If making the correction as part of a Kukkiwon promotion, there is no additional fee for the correction; the promotion fee will be collected by PayPal invoice. For a Kukkiwon promotion with changes, you also need to send:

  • A completed Kukkiwon Application form;
  • Photo (head and shoulders) in jpg format (if desired)

Conversions: Submit the Kukkiwon Special Request form and indicate in the notes that you are requesting a Dan conversion.

Replacements: Submit the Kukkiwon Special Request form and indicate in the notes that you are requesting a replacement certificate/ID card.

Skip Dan: Submit the Kukkiwon Special Request form and indicate in the notes that you are requesting a Skip Dan. You must also include:

  • Kukkiwon Application form;
  • Photo (head and shoulders) in jpg format;
  • Letter from the master, which endorses the Skip Dan and includes reasons why the athlete merits this special consideration.

- Skip Dan is for Dan candidates only. Poom candidates are not eligible.

- Only one Dan rank may be skipped and only once in an athlete’s life.

- 5th Dan is the highest rank to which an athlete can jump.

- To be eligible to jump one rank, the athlete must wait the total number of years for the rank skipped and the rank to which the athlete is promoted. For example, to skip from 2nd Dan to 4th Dan, the athlete must have at least five (5) years’ time as a 2nd

The form will be available online soon

Tips to improve your upload experience

The Kukkiwon does not recognize accents nor print them on certificates. Please ensure there are no accented letters when submitting Kukkiwon applications.

Eligibility Date: Please pay attention to the issue date when submitting applications for 2nd Poom/Dan and higher. The Kukkiwon does not accept applications submitted prior to the eligibility date and Taekwondo Canada does not have the capacity to hold applications submitted early. You will be advised that the Kukkiwon rejected the application and your fees will be refunded, less a $25 USD administration fee.

Photos: The photo should be a clear shot of the athlete’s head and shoulders. Though photos tend to look best on the ID card with a plain, white background, there is no requirement for professional or passport photos, nor for a white background.

Kukkiwon Certificate Information: For 2nd Dan or higher, the information must be exactly the same as what is printed on the current Kukkiwon certificate (Kukkiwon number, name, date of birth and nationality). If there is any correction to the certificate information, you cannot make the changes using the online application system; you must submit a Kukkiwon Special Request form.

Note:

If you order a 2nd Dan or higher application through the online system, the application will be uploaded to the Kukkiwon Management System using the Kukkiwon number to find the athlete and the certificate that will be received will reflect the same personal information as on the current Kukkiwon certificate, including any existing errors.

For 2nd Poom/Dan or higher applications, if a club uploads an application online with an existing error in certificate personal information, Taekwondo Canada will not accept responsibility for the existing errors and the processing fee applies.
