Canadian Taekwondo Athletes Set to Square off at Lima 2019 Pan American Games

LIMA, Peru—A talented group of 13 Canadian taekwondo athletes have arrived in Lima, Peru and have their sights set on the podium when they hit the mat for Pan American Games competitions, July 27-29.

Taekwondo Canada is one of five nations who will send a full team. The Canadian team is made up of four women and four men for a variety of Kyorugi Olympic weight divisions. Five additional athletes will team up for Canada in the Poomsae freestyle events, which will make their Pan American Games debut in Lima.

Who Fights When:

July 27

AJ Assadian (Toronto) and Valerie Ho (Calgary) will lead things off for the Canucks in the individual Poomsae competitions which start at 9 a.m. (Local);
Yvette Yong (Toronto) and Miguel Diaz (Toronto) will hit the mat for opening day Kyorugi events – starts at 2 p.m. (Local).

July 28

Michelle Lee (Toronto) and Jinsu Ha (Toronto) will compete in Poomsae Pairs;
All five Poomsae athletes will compete in the team event;
Hervan Nkogho (Quebec City) and Skylar Park (Winnipeg) will compete for Kyorugi gold;

July 29

Canada’s final four Kyorugi athletes will take centre stage including Ashley Kraayeveld (Toronto), Christopher Iliesco (Quebec City), Jordan Stewart (Toronto), and Rachel Cuma (Toronto).

Live Streaming:

CBC Sports and the Canadian Olympic Committee announced today that Canadians will be able to experience the excitement of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games through a full-day integrated feed featuring a variety of sports via daily live stream on the free CBC Gem streaming service, cbcsports.ca and via the CBC Sports app.

 

The live stream feed, which is available exclusively within Canada via CBC Sports in partnership with host broadcaster MediaPro, will start with the Opening Ceremony later today at 7:50pm ET (4:50pm PT). A schedule of the featured events will be posted on the @CBCOlympics social media channels once available, subject to change. 

 

Lima 2019

Lima 2019 runs from July 26 to August 11. The Games will bring together approximately 6,700 athletes from 41 nations of the Americas and feature 62 disciplines in 39 sports. It will be the largest sporting event ever held in Peru.
