Taekwondo Canada will be hosting a pre-qualification tournament to select athletes in eligible Olympic Weight Classes in order to determine entries for the Pan American Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The eligibility criteria for Taekwondo Canada’s pre-qualification tournament can be found on the Taekwondo Canada website at taekwondo-canada.com/high-performance/selection-criteria/.
Taekwondo Canada can send one (1) athlete per Olympic Weight Class, up to a maximum of two (2) athletes per gender to the Pan American Qualification Tournament. Available weight classes will be dependent on the Qualification Pathway as outlined in World Taekwondo’s Qualification System – Games of the XXIII Olympiad – Paris 2024. The selection of athletes will precede Taekwondo Canada’s evaluation and determination of which weight classes will be selected for entry providing the greatest potential for Taekwondo Canada to qualify additional athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Ultimately, the goal is to have a fair process that both acknowledges those that have been able to achieve and maintain high World Taekwondo Olympic ranking, but also provide an opportunity for those that are seriously pursuing the High Performance pathway within the sport. Established Senior athletes, athletes that are just entering the Senior division, and athletes that are Senior eligible in 2023 all have the same opportunity to attend World Taekwondo calendar events and accumulate points towards earning a chance to fight for an Olympic weight spot and potentially attend the Continental Qualifier.
