First Grand Prix medal won by Skylar Park at GP in Rome

Skylar Park has never failed to amaze the Canadian Taekwondo Community. She did it again at this past weekend’s Grand Prix in Rome. After defeating Great Britain’s Rachelle Booth in the quarterfinals, Skylar battled Marta Calvo Gómez of Spain and eventually brought home a bronze medal in the F-57kg category.

“Very excited to be starting off the 2018 season with a bronze medal,” Skylar shared on her social media account. “Not the ultimate results and performance we wanted, but step by step we are working towards the ultimate goal! I can’t wait to get back to training and on with the rest of the season.”

Great Britain’s Jade Jones defeated Spain’s Marta Calvo and claimed the gold in this division.

Marc-André Bergeron (QC), Nathalie Iliesco (QC) and Yvette Yong (ON) all advanced to the round of 16 in their respective divisions.

Three Canadian referees were invited to the event, including Eric Wah (AB), Martin Desjardins (QC) and Daniel Park (ON).

Big congratulations to Skylar Park and her coach Jae Park on the great performance in Rome. We cannot wait to see what’s in store for Canada at the upcoming 2018 Pan Am Senior Championships in Spokane, US!
