STATEMENT TO THE TAEKWONDO CANADA MEMBERSHIP

In light of last week’s court decision finding former taekwondo coach Shin Wook Lim guilty of sexual assault, Taekwondo Canada reiterates its strong condemnation of abuse and maltreatment of any kind. In taekwondo, as in all sports, every athlete deserves a safe environment in which to train, participate and grow. Taekwondo Canada is committed to fostering healthy sport environments for the athletes, staff, coaches and volunteers who form the Taekwondo Canada family.
Taekwondo Canada will continue to work with key stakeholders including the Respect Group, on an enhanced plan to educate our athletes, coaches and parents, amongst others, and to enact pragmatic policies and procedures aimed at rooting out abuse in all its forms. Ensuring a safe and respectful sporting environment for all is our foremost priority.
