Taekwondo Canada Accepting Applications for Athlete Director

Taekwondo Canada is seeking applications from athletes to become an Athlete Director (AD). Eligibility and criteria for the AD role is stated in the Taekwondo Canada Athlete Director Role Description. The application form can be accessed by clicking HERE and applications will be accepted Friday, March 28, 2025 – Friday, April 04, 2025.

POSITION TYPE
Volunteer. Please note that this is a volunteer position and there is no compensation provided. All reasonable travel, meeting and/or committee-related expenses will be covered by Taekwondo Canada.

PURPOSE
The purpose of the Athlete Director (AD) is to sit on and speak to the Taekwondo Canada Board of Directors (BOD) on behalf of Taekwondo Canada’s high-performance National Team athletes, to represent and promote the athlete voice, to ensure that the athlete body’s concerns are heard and responded to, and to ensure that Taekwondo Canada is focused on the needs and interests of their athletes, including all issues which may directly or indirectly affect athletes at the high-performance level.

WHO CAN APPLY?
Athletes who are current members of the Taekwondo Canada Senior National Team, or those athletes who have been members of the Taekwondo Canada Senior National Team for any period within eight (8) years preceding the election as long as that individual is involved in the sport of taekwondo.

The initial selection committee will also consider inclusivity, English/French language proficiency, other sport governance or leadership positions, other skill sets acquired as an athlete (qualifications, education, leadership roles, certifications).

TIME COMMITMENT
The Board will hold at least four (4) meetings per fiscal year.

Taekwondo Canada Directors – including the AD – serve terms of four (4) years.

      1. 500 words or less, please describe what specific skills, experiences, or competencies and attributes you feel you can contribute to the Taekwondo Canada Athlete Director role
      2. 500 words or less, if you could provide one suggestion to improve the athlete experience within the sport of Taekwondo, what would it be?
      3. Attach a recent image of yourself that you have rights to for use by Taekwondo Canada for promotional use if needed.
   3. Your application will be reviewed based on
      1. Eligibility
      2. Demonstrated athlete leadership
      3. Unique athlete perspectives based on your athlete and lived experience
      4. Other leadership skills; and
      5. Other qualities the selection committee may deem just
   4. You will be contacted by April 02, 2025
   5. Successful applicants will be notified by April 03, 2025
   6. Taekwondo Canada will post all approved candidates, April 11, 2025

VOTING

• • Eligibility to vote will be based on current active Taekwondo Canada National Team Athletes
  • Application window: Friday, March 28, 2025 – Friday, April 04, 2025
  • Only eligible voters will receive an election link
  • Voting period: Monday, April 14, 2025 – Friday April 25, 2025
  • It is anticipated that the athlete representatives will serve a 4-year term aligned with the Taekwondo Board of Directors.
