Taekwondo Canada Postpones National Championships

OTTAWA (December 22, 2021) – Taekwondo Canada is announcing today, the postponement of the 2022 Canadian National Poomsae and Senior Kyorugi Championships. Due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Canada, the event scheduled in Toronto from January 7th to 9th, 2022, has been postponed until early spring with confirmation of an exact date forthcoming.
The decision to postpone the National Championships was done in consultation with numerous bodies and confirmed on Tuesday evening during a formal meeting.
“The decision to postpone the National Championships was not done lightly” said Executive Director Dave Harris. “The staff of Taekwondo Canada made every effort to run the event in a safe manner that would best suit the athletes, coaches, referees and families. In the end, we felt that with the significant increase in COVID-19 numbers, the event could not be done in a manner that would satisfy all safety precautions. We understand the difficulties that this might cause for those hoping to participate in the event, but safety was paramount in our decision and we hope that all involved will understand.”
The exact date for the rescheduling of the National Championships will be made as soon as possible and communicated via our website and social media avenues.
For those that are currently registered or have been trying to register for the event, Taekwondo Canada is aware of the current issues with the Simply Compete system. Unfortunately, Taekwondo Canada was not advised of the disruption to the system, and as such we are working with World Taekwondo to understand what this means for our participants’ global licenses, event registrations and future events. We are not expecting to have further information until after the holiday season and we will communicate more information as we receive it.
