Welcome message from Mayor Jim Watson

Posted on

On behalf of Members of Ottawa City Council, it is my distinct pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all those participating in the 2018 Canadian National Taekwondo Championships, hosted by Taekwondo Canada, and taking place at the EY Centre from February 15th to 18th 2018.

I am delighted that Ottawa has been selected as the host venue for this premier national level taekwondo competition, providing a valuable platform for male and female athletes representing youth, cadet, junior and senior divisions, including U30, U40, U50, U60, U65 and O65 categories, to contend in friendly rivalry and demonstrate their skills. The Championships will also highlight para-athletes competing in sparring and poomsae, as well as black belt divisions for poomsae and sparring.

As Head of Council, I want to acknowledge Taekwondo Canada, the athletes, coaches and officials, along with the sponsors for dedicating efforts, expertise and resources to the successful organization of these national Championships.

As Mayor of the host city, I invite visitors to explore the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame and the Barbara Ann Scott Gallery at City Hall, as well as the revitalized Lansdowne park, its restored heritage pavilions, and new TD Place, home of the Ottawa REDBLACKS CFL team, and Ottawa Fury FC United Soccer League team.

Allow me to convey my best wishes to the participants for a rewarding competition, and to the visitors for a most memorable stay in Ottawa.

Sincerely,

Jim Watson, Mayor
